While attendance in preschool is not mandatory, it is important!
Preschool is the ideal time to introduce children to the importance of consistent on-time attendance and to encourage strong attendance habits. A high-quality preschool program can build early literacy and math skills, as well as develop the social and emotional foundation children need to persist in school. But preschoolers only receive the full effect of these benefits if they show up for class regularly. Frequent absences not only mean less instruction, but also missed opportunities for intervention, re-teaching and enrichment.
While we do not encourage you to send your child to school when ill, good attendance in preschool will support consistency in your child's life and provide them with more opportunities to learn and grow!
Sidney City Schools preschool at Whittier Early Childhood Center runs a morning and afternoon session Monday through Thursday and follows the district calendar for conferences, breaks, and holidays. Snacks will be provided as a part of the program.
Morning Session - 9:00am - 11:45am
Afternoon Session - 1:00pm - 3:45pm
Arrival time for the AM session begins at 8:45, and for the PM session at 12:45. Parents may pick up their child at 11:45 from the AM session, and 3:45 for the PM session.
Because the afternoon session releases at the same time as Emerson and Longfellow Primary Schools, children who attend preschool during the afternoon session may be released to parents/guardians early at 3:30 pm to allow for pick up at the other schools. If you need to utilize this option, please communicate this with the teacher.
